Mutare Polytechnic will be holding soccer and netball trials at Mutare Polytechnic from the 2nd to the 15th of December 2013. Mutare Polytechnic also known as the college boys are doing well in the Division One league, while the netball team is flying the institution’s flag in the premier league. Players from all provinces are being invited for trials, where they have the opportunity to develop and showcase their soccer and netball skills and at the same time ply their academic trades. The selected players are expected to have a minimum requirement of 5’O’Levels including English Language and Mathematics for them to be enrolled with Mutare Polytechnic. Accommodation will be provided for those without accommodation in Mutare at a fee of $10 for the duration of trials.
Mutare Polytechnic signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Chemhanza High School on 15th December.
Speaking after the signing of the MoU, the Director Business Development and Marketing, Sports and Recreation, Mr Daniel Kuwengwa commended Mutare Polytechnic and Chemhanza High for coming into collaboration which saw the signing of the memoranda.
“This is a mile stone, which is qualitative of building relations between Primary and Secondary Education and Tertiary institutions.” he said.
Mr. Kuwengwa said the sporting activities at Mutare Polytechnic are in tandem with this vision. The Institution scouts for talent and nurtures it through participation in both tertiary and club sport all year round. As regards scouting for talent, today in recognition of the value Mutare Polytechnic has formalised its partnership to Chemhanza. This partnership may grow from strength to strength.
“Today we have witnessed the signing of the MoU and is a clear testimony that the current Mutare Polytechnic Sport Strategic Plan is already bearing fruit in its first year of implementation by formalising the partnership.” he said.
Speaking at the same event, the Principal of Mutare Polytechnic, Mr. Tobias Kuwengwa said the mission of the partnership is to create continuing progressions environment for developing and nurturing sporting talent through maximum participation in various sporting disciplines.
The event was iced by a Sports Awards ceremony which saw sports persons who excelled in the following categories walking away with prizes.
In keeping with its vision to be the most preferred institution in Zimbabwe and beyond, Mutare Polytechnic participated at the recently held Sanganai/Hlanganani expo that ran from the 10th to the 12th of October 2013 under the theme “Where the world meets Africa.”
Sanganai/Hlanganani travel expo, which is the country’s largest tourism and travel expo, provided the opportunity for the institution to market its hospitality and tourism department. Over and above all this, the expo provided the institution to interact as well as receive feedback from stakeholders who visited the stand, among them government officials, corporate from the tourism sector and the general public.
Commenting after the tour of the Mutare Polytechnic exhibition stand, ZTA chief executive Mr. Karikoga Kaseke commended the institution for putting up a splendid display noting that the exhibits were impressive and indicative of the great strides being made by Mutare Polytechnic in the provision of quality education. I’m delighted that Mutare Polytechnic continues to grow every year. I was particularly impressed to see that you are actively involved in promoting the tourism industry through training, said Kaseke.
Meanwhile Mutare Polytechnic walked away with the Best Tertiary institution stand and Mutare Polytechnic students came third in the Zimbabwe Chefs Association competition in the Live Cooking category.

Mutare Poly Football club is doing well in the Division One league. The team did the institution proud after defeating Masvingo ZRP 2-1.This has placed the team on the forth position on the log. The Mutare Poly Giants have so far played 12 games in which they have won six games, drawn once and lost five games. The team still has 18 more games to play and this weekend it will be playing against South Downs at Redwing Mine at the Chinyanjera Stadium.
Mutare Polytechnic Darts men, Darts women and Misheck Mabheka an athletic will participate in this year’s Confederation of Universities and College Sports Association (CUCSA) to be held in Malawi in mid August. These sports icons won gold medals in the Zimbabwe Tertiary Sport Union (ZTSU) recently held in Bulawayo from 21-23 July 2013 .The games were hosted by National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
